Bruce Forsyth Describes Meeting Wife Wilnelia Merced For The Very First Time

HE may have been an easy target for generations of amateur impressionists since nearly the dawn of the television age, but Sir Bruce Forsyth set the gold standard for light entertainment in Britain.

The television veteran started his career when he was just 14 years old when he launched his all-singing all-dancing act Boy Bruce, The Mighty Atom.

Bruce Forsyth's last live TV appearance was on Strictly Come Dancing's Call The Midwife special for Children In Need, where he could be seen handing over the Glitterball trophy with co-host Tess Daly.

Bruce Forsyth sadly passed away on August 18 2017 at the age of 89.

In 2011 he was knighted, becoming Sir Bruce, after years of campaigning by his friends.

"With a twinkle in his eye, he responded 'I've been very, very busy. being ill!'".

Tributes have been pouring in since the news was announced, with BBC Director General Tony Hall calling Sir Bruce "one of the greatest entertainers our country has ever known".

Former BBC Chairman Lord Grade said "nobody in the history of British show business" had "worked as hard" as Sir Forsyth while enduring "in the public's affection" generation after generation.

He also hosted the BBC show The Generation Game from 1971 to 1977 and again at the beginning of the 1990s. His warmth and his wit were legendary.

He added: "I've never seen anyone quite like him when it comes to performing in front of a crowd. He had a remarkable chemistry with his audience - that's what made him such an fantastic professional and why he was so loved", Hall continued.

Bruce Forsyth always said one of the luckiest things that ever happened to him - in a very lucky life - was meeting the former Miss World, Wilnelia Merced.
