French auto attack driver said probably on drugs

Incoherent Suspect Recalls Driving Into Pizzeria France

But others, including a 3-year-old boy who was flown by helicopter to a Paris children's hospital, are out of immediate danger, he added.

A CANNABIS-smoking security guard was today identified as the would-be killer who drove his auto into a packed restaurant terrace near Paris. A32 year-old man, thought to be "depressive" and "unstable", was behind the wheel and drove deliberately into a pizzeria hurting several diners, according to the police.

A 44-year-old woman who was among the gravely injured is still in danger, the prosecutor said.

French national police, the Gendarmerie Nationale, posted on Twitter that it was investigating.

A police official said authorities were not searching for accomplices, and a security official said there was no evidence of a political or Islamic extremist motive.

The man who deliberately drove his vehicle into diners at a pizzeria outside Paris told investigators he had a long history of medical drug abuse and wanted to be sent to prison for safety, a French prosecutor said on Tuesday.

Gandhi has also asked the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to reach out to the girl's family. Gandhi also wrote on Tweeter, "I would request @SushmaSwaraj to intervene and bring the girl back to India from Oman".

Brandet said a young girl was killed and four people were injured in a condition of "absolute emergency".

The targeted pizzeria is in a shopping zone in the small town of Sept-Sorts, about 65 kilometres (40 miles) east of Paris near Champagne country. Brandet said the man was not known to intelligence or police.

The incident came five days after a auto rammed an army patrol in a Paris suburb, injuring six soldiers. The prosecutor again ruled out terrorism as a motive.

While his actions are said to have been deliberate, the incident is not being treated as a terror attack.

An Algerian man drove his vehicle into a group of French soldiers last week, and a truck attack in the French city of Nice left 86 people dead a little more than a year ago.
