Nobel victor shot for promoting education to study at Oxford

Malala Yousefzai is congratulated after collecting her 'A' level exam results at Edgbaston High School for Girls in Birmingham

Pakistani rights activist Malala Yousafzai on Thursday secured a place at Oxford University after getting her A-level results as the Nobel Peace Prize victor follows in the footsteps of numerous world leaders by studying philosophy, politics and economics at the prestigious varsity.

"So excited to go to Oxford!" she tweeted Thursday.

According to the NYT, Malala earlier received a conditional offer from Oxford's Lady Margaret Hall, contingent on results of her exams.

The 20-year-old activist shared word of her acceptance on Twitter and included the screenshot of her "Congratulations" notice.

Thousands of students up and down the country have been opening their A-level results this morning to find out whether they will be heading to their university of choice. It would seem she has got the grades that she required. "Best wishes for life ahead!"

Malala said she would be studying philosophy, politics and economics, or PPE, which has been dubbed by The Guardian as "the Oxford degree that runs Britain".

PNB, HDFC Bank to revise interest rates on savings accounts
The bank has also slashed interest rate on savings accounts to 6.25% from existing 6.5% for deposits over Rs 1 crore. The bank said that it was necessary to cut the return on savings account in order to keep its cost of lending low.

Others to have studied the same course at Oxford, one of the world's top universities, include former British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Among those celebrating their results was Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani education advocate who was shot in the head by the Taliban aged 15.

Malala's father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, tweeted: "My heart is full of gratitude". We have no doubt that you'll smash it out of the park.

Perhaps it isn't common knowledge that Malala put her life on the line at the age of 11 to act as a correspondent to BBC Urdu so that the Taliban's growing influence could be reported.

In April, Malala was made the youngest ever UN Messenger of Peace. In 2014, the 17-year-old then won the Nobel Peace Prize for her global advocacy efforts.
