Raiders' Sean Smith charged with assault after allegedly beating sister's boyfriend

The prosecutor alleges that Smith stomped on the victim's head.

He is now playing for the Oakland Raiders, The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office says Smith was charged with assault and battery in connection with a July 4, 2017 incident. A warrant was filed on August 16.

According to NBC Sports California, Smith plans to fight the charges.

Smith is scheduled to be arraigned on September 29 in the Pasadena branch of L.A. County Superior Court.

He was being held on $80,000 bail after he was arrested around 2 p.m. Thursday in Pasadena, L.A. County Sheriff's Department inmate records showed.

Pasadena police are continuing to investigate the case. Originally a second-round draft pick of the Dolphins in 2009, the 6-3, 220-pound Smith spent three seasons with the Chiefs before joining the Raiders in 2016 on a four-year, $40 million contract, including $20 million guaranteed.

NFL.com reached out to the Raiders for a comment on the matter but the team has yet to give a response.
