Tony Pulis: 'West Bromwich Albion do not need to sell Jonny Evans'

Albion rejected City's £18m opening offer last week but Pulis refused to rule out selling the defender - if City up their bid.

Pulis insists he wants to keep Evans at The Hawthorns but conceded that every player has a price.

"It's market forces. The two things are, firstly we don't want to sell him, we don't need to sell him". If that offer came in then we would sit down and talk to Jonny. Jonny is happy here and wants to get on with his football. Jonny is one of our best players.

"Every player is for sale at the right place". "Every player is for sale at the right price, it is absolutely insane to say that a team like West Brom wont sell players if people are going to put an enormous amount of money in front of you".

A Manchester United academy product, the defender made 198 appearances for Manchester United and won three Premier League titles before leaving Old Trafford in 2015.

Pulis told a news conference ahead of Saturday's Premier League trip to Burnley that Evans, who is out with a hamstring injury, would not be sold unless an "enormous" offer was made.

"He has got an injury at the moment, he will have a late fitness test today".

West Brom have also been linked with a move for Tottenham's Kevin Wimmer, with the Austria global expected to leave last season's Premier League runners-up to make room for potential new signing Davinson Sanchez.

It was also said that Pulis, who has now seemingly admitted defeat in his pursuit of Middlesbrough's Ben Gibson, was hopeful of completing negotiations within the coming days.

"There is no way I would have allowed him to leave this football club [United]".

"Whoever is saying it is close is miles away from that fact", he said.
