Sabathia-Sale duel spices up Yankees-Red Sox clash

Racial cleansers in Boston are setting their sights on Yawkey Way, the street leading into Fenway Park.

Behind six strong innings by fresh-off-the-disabled-list CC Sabathia, a three-run homer by Tyler Austin, a solo shot by Todd Frazier and a rickety but ultimately effective performance from a rejiggered bullpen, the Yankees edged the Red Sox, 4-3, in front of 37,274 at Fenway Park. The rocket appeared to be ticketed for extra bases, but Bradley glided back and snatched the ball with an outstanding leaping catch. After Chase Headley saw eight pitches to lead off the second inning, Didi Gregorius stroked a first-pitch double and Frazier got hit by a pitch.

Yawkey Way, just two blocks long, is a narrow and unremarkable roadway, but it is familiar to Red Sox fans because it transforms into a pedestrian promenade on game days, with much of it cordoned off to allow thousands of fans to gather to drink beer, eat grilled sausages and buy souvenirs before entering the ballpark.

Perhaps Red Sox Nation would be singing a different tune Saturday morning after watching the bullpen squander another lead.

He has a pair of no-decisions against the Red Sox in his brief career.

On Reed's 30th pitch - his second-highest total of the season - he finished the eighth inning and let the Red Sox save closer Craig Kimbrel until the ninth, which he handled easily.

By doing what they did Friday night, the Red Sox can accomplish something more this weekend. He's 2-0 against the Yankees after getting 10 runs of support on Saturday, though he's allowed nine runs in 17 2/3 innings, striking out 19 while allowing three homers.

For the past six seasons, few pitchers have dominated the Yankees more than Chris Sale.

Merck CEO Steps Down After Trump Did Not Condemn Charlottesville Incident
The council was designed to create American jobs by bringing together "the world's most successful and creative business leaders". Its deputy chief of staff, Thea Lee, also resigned.

But with the Red Sox still carrying a four-game lead heading into the series finale, this didn't have the be-all, end-all type of vibe.

"We ought to be able to lead the effort and if others in the community favor a change, we would welcome it - particularly in light of the country's current leadership stance with regard to intolerance", he said, according to the Herald. "All night against him I was just looking for a fastball". "His breaking pitches are really good. Like I said, it was a special moment".

The Yankees put a runner in scoring position in each of the first four innings but were unable to bring him home.

The Red Sox have had enough. Pitcher David Price said he received racial taunts at the stadium a year ago. We'll probably talk about it over a beer later down the road in a couple years.

By beating Sale, the Yankees trimmed the margin back to four games.

Baseball and Central Mass. go way back - to the 1860s.

I know Andrew Benintendi was an instant success when he arrived previous year, and Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts and Dustin Pedroia and Jacoby Ellsbury and Nomar Garciaparra all wasted no time proving they were legit big leaguers.
