Pres. Trump Shuts Down 'Burdensome' Obama-Era Proposal For Equal Pay

Ivanka Trump, who serves as an advisor in the White House and has been cast by many in the media as a moderating force in the Trump administration with a special interest in clearing the way for pay equality for women, supported the decision to scrap the rule. Beginning this spring, the rule would have required private employers with 100 or more employees, and federal contractors with 50 or more employees, to submit wage and pay data. "It's enormously burdensome", Neomi Raom, an administrator from the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, told the magazine.

She added that she looked forward to working with "all relevant stakeholders on robust policies aimed at eliminating the gender wage gap".

In a move that may disappoint some - but should surprise none - Ivanka Trump came out in support of killing a key Obama-era equal-pay initiative on August 29.

"Among other things, OMB is concerned that some aspects of the revised collection of information lack practical utility, are unnecessarily burdensome, and do not adequately address privacy and confidentiality issues", the letter stated. Ivanka Trump herself already lauded a similar initiative in Germany, though she predictably hedged her bets by saying, "T$3 hat's something we should all be looking at-to see the efficacy of that policy as it gets rolled out". Her statement is transparently dumb: There is no way to make an honest case for the position that more data and transparency will not help the EEOC identify possible cases of wage discrimination or prosecute those flagged by employees. Either way, we should probably drop the "Ivanka will be our savior" narrative.

However, Cohn, who heads the White House National Economic Council and plays a key role in the administration's efforts to overhaul the tax code, did not make the shout-out list. "One well-connected strategist in NY told me that the two were eyeing a move at the end of the school year in 2018", the report reads, adding assertively: "Kushner and Ivanka will leave the White House at some point". Ivanka, who has previously advocated for equal pay, said she believed this policy would not have helped achieve those goals.

"This is not a technical tweak as they would have you believe".

Friends of Ivanka said she had felt hurt by criticism of her inability to dissuade her father from taking action, such as pulling the USA out of the Paris climate accord. Using that data, the federal government would then have had hard evidence of pay discrimination.

The Trump daughter has been an opportunistic advocate for women's rights-including paid family leave, affordable childcare, and "equal pay for equal work"-since she joined her father's campaign past year; on "Equal Pay Day" in April, she tweeted, "We must work to close the gender pay gap!".

"That's so important to Ivanka Trump", he said.
