State Department Hits Back At Russia For Kicking Out US Diplomats

Russia has been ordered to close its San Francisco consulate and two other annexes in response to "unwarranted" Russian action, the U.S. has said.

Slutsky is quoted by Russian news agencies as saying, "It's a highly unjust step".

The decision was in retaliation for Russian President Vladimir Putin kicking out more than 700 USA diplomats - after Trump, reluctantly, signed a sanctions law passed by Congress. "We believe this action was unwarranted and detrimental to the overall relation between our countries".

Despite worsening relations between Moscow and Washington, North Korea's growing nuclear program poses significant challenges for both countries, which may create an opportunity for Russian Federation and the United States to cooperate in finding a resolution to the problem.

She added, "The United States is prepared to take further action as necessary and as warranted". The Russian declaration had been a retaliation, in its own right, for the "insolence" demonstrated by new sanctions overwhelmingly passed by USA lawmakers. The State Department said the reduction impacted both American and Russian staff, but declined to say what happened to the personnel whose jobs had been eliminated.

In July Russia demanded more than 700 USA diplomats stationed in Russia be immediately expelled from the country after Congress passed new sanctions on a number of government officials close to President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin did not answer email from Trump's lawyer: spokesman
The business associate bragged about his ties to Vladimir Putin and suggested he would get Putin's team to "buy in" to the deal . Sater, Noah explained, was convicted for stabbing a man in the face and neck with a margarita glass in a bar fight.

"As Lenin said, hysterical impulses are of no use to us". Annexes in NY and Washington that house trade missions also must close by Saturday. The Russians will still own the property, and they can choose to keep them or sell them.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson informed Russia's foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, of the tit-for-tat move in a phone call Thursday morning.

On Thursday, the State Department said its ordered Russia to shutter three diplomatic sites in the United States in the "spirit of parity", including the Russian consulate in San Francisco.

"With this action both countries will remain with three consulates each", Nauert said.

Citgo has a large presence in the United States and represents roughly five percent of US crude-oil refining capacity, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Thursday's announcement by the State Department came as Russia's new ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, arrived in the USA capital to take up his post, Russian news agencies reported.
