Kenyan judges slam Kenyatta's 'veiled threats' after poll win

The Supreme Court previously annulled President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election and ordered a fresh vote within 60 days.

He said the 60-day period within which the repeat election must be held would present challenges as parties trade words over the election board, which was blamed by the court for failing to adhere to the law while conducting the election.

Supporters of an opposition leader Raila Odinga celebrate in Mathare slum after President Uhuru Kenyatta's election win was declared invalid by a court in Nairobi, Kenya, September 1, 2017.

Kenyatta won the August 8 vote by 1.4 million votes.

Four out of the six judges at the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Odinga who is from National Super Alliance (NASA) party that contested the election results and filed a petition at the apex court to have them overturned.

He continued: "The Supreme Court sat and decided that they are the ones with a bigger power than the 15 million Kenyans who woke up, queued in lines, and voted for their preferred presidential candidate".

Mr. Kerry, heading the Carter Center's observer mission, said, "Kenya has made a remarkable statement to Africa and the world about its democracy and the character of that democracy".

The ruling contradicts reports issued by most election observers, both local and global, including the former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, who commended the Kenyan Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for running a fairly credible election.

Omission by National Football League in Ezekiel Elliott investigation may result in no suspension
Ezekiel Elliott is awaiting word from an arbitrator on whether his suspension is upheld, overruled or reduced. The NFLPA also wanted to know why NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell did not testify in Elliott's hearing.

The August election, which included the presidential poll in addition to races at other levels of government was one of the most expensive ever held in Africa.

Odinga claimed after the election that the electoral commission computer servers had been hacked.

The Kenya Supreme Court said those results are no longer valid.

The commission's chairman has promised changes in personnel ahead of the vote and invited the prosecution of any staffer found to have manipulated results. A lot of them actually belong in jail and therefore we are going to ask prosecution for all the electoral commission officials who have committed this monstrous crime against the people of Kenya.

On Friday he slammed the judges as "crooks".

"Do you understand me?" Kenyatta, the 55-year-old son of Kenya's founding father, has already served one five-year term.

"The fears (of violence) were real, but the rush to judgment (sic) overlooked, among other things, that the supervisor of a new electronic voting system, Christopher Chege Msando, had been murdered and apparently tortured days before the election".
