Terror funding case: NIA conducts fresh raids on separatists, traders in Kashmir

NIA raids Hurriyat leader Aga Hassan's residence in Budgam

Prior to his arrest, JKLF chairman while talking to media person outside JKLF office said that this arrest actually shows the hollowness of NIA claims about so-called terror funding.

He said the raids and searches were conducted at nine locations in Kashmir, one in Jammu, winter capital of the State.

The National Investigation Agency raided the house of Hurriyat leader Agha Syed Hassan and seized almost Rs 2.20 crore cash in Kashmir's Budgam on Thursday.

Another resistance leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani is already under house arrest. "A raid was also conducted at a premise at Gurugram".

An NIA spokesman said NIA sleuths conducted raids on the residences and offices of separatist leaders and traders engaged in cross-Line of Control (LoC) trade today.

All roads leading to the house of Aga Hassan, a Shia leader, were closed before the NIA personnel arrived there.

Three top Kashmiri separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had threatened to stage a sit-in outside the NIA headquarters in Delhi on September 9 and court arrest to protest against, what they termed as, "vilification" of Kashmiri people by the investigation agency.

On Friday a photo journalist from Kashmir was arrested by the National Investigation Agency on the charge that he was involved in incidents of stone pelting. The seized documents reportedly contain details of Watali's financial transactions which can significantly strengthen NIA's case against Watali. The separatist leader, however, said his arrest would not break the spirit of the freedom loving people of the state.

Zameer Ahman, a close aide of separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on July 25, was quizzed at Gulshan Nagar-Nowgam in Srinagar.

NIA investigated the whole matter as a case registered on May 30 in which the leader of the Pakistan-based Jamaat-ud-Dawa and banned terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hafiz Saeed, was named as an accused.

The NIA had on Tuesday arrested two alleged "ringleaders" of stone-pelters including a freelance press photographer Kamran Yusuf from south of the Valley.
