Donald ends Rams holdout, won't play in opener

Aaron Donald's holdout is over.

However, Donald will not play in their Week 1 matchup against the against the Indianapolis Colts, and both sides are still working on a new contract, per Schefter.

For the last several weeks, the Los Angeles Rams have had the cloud of star defensive tackle Aaron Donald holding out in favor of landing a new long-term deal.

Barcelona 5-0 Espanyol
Espanyol - Lopez 8, Sanchez 5, Lopez 6, Hermoso 5, Aaron 6, Fuego 5, Darder 6, Diop 5, Piatti 7, Moreno 5, Baptistao 6. Messi is the beating heart of this Barcelona team in every possible way and this performance highlighted how.

He started his holdout at the beginning of camp, with reports suggesting that Donald was ready to miss regular-season games. Coach Sean McVay said Friday that Donald "won't be a part of this [week's] game".

I'd expect the Rams will want to have Donald on the field for Week 2, and I'd expect Donald to do everything in his power to make sure his body and his mind is ready after his extended absence.

The same situation arose previous year when then-San Diego Chargers rookie defensive end, Joey Bose, was a long hold out and missed action when the regular season got underway. The outcome of his holdout - returning to the facility without a big deal - is likely not what Donald and his team envisioned when they took their stance. It seems all is forgiven though, because the Rams have waived all fines levied against Donald, and he will be paid for Week 1, despite not playing. The quicker Donald can line up against opposing linemen, the sooner Wade Phillips' 3-4 scheme can be truly implemented and reach its full potential in La La Land.
