Boyfriend charged with murder after body of missing pregnant teacher found

Missing Pregnant Teacher Found Dead; Suspect Arrested: Police

Laura Wallen was a pregnant high school teacher at Wilde Lake High School who went missing last week.

Wallen, 31, of Olney, Maryland, was a social studies and law teacher at Wilde Lake High School in Columbia, where she was awarded "Teacher of the Year" in 2016.

Police also say that Tessier admitted to attempting to dispose of Wallen's cell phone, her driver's license, and the license plate on her vehicle, and that he told a friend to lie about picking him up at Wallen's residence if the police contacted her.

Wallen sent a text message to either her sister or a friend September 2, Manger said.

According to the documents, Wallen texted the woman a week before her disappearance, saying, "It's important that some things are cleared up and I imagine that if you were in my position, you'd want some answers as well".

"If somebody has her, please understand that you've taken away a huge person in so many people's life", Tyler Tessier had said on Monday. "I know what she means to me". But the acquaintance declined to assist, Manger said.

Investigators are not saying what they found inside of Wallen's condo or in her vehicle.

Cassini will sacrifice itself to protect Saturn's potentially habitable moons
NASA did not want to risk Cassini crashing into any of Saturn's moons and potentially contaminating them with microbes from Earth. Of Cassini's 162 targeted flybys of Saturn's 53 named and nine unnamed moons, 127 were of Titan.

Screenshot of Tyler Tessier speaking at a news conference, two days before he was arrested in connection to the death of his pregnant girlfriend. Surveillance video showed the two together on Saturday, Sept. 2, at a grocery store near Wallen's home.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results as they work to piece together details of what led to the killing of a pregnant Maryland high school teacher found dead nine days after being reported missing. Detectives located an acquaintance who said Tessier had asked her to give him a ride from the apartment complex, and asked the friend to lie if police asked her about picking him up from Columbia, police said. "The decision to allow him to participate in that news conference was a calculated decision made by the detectives in this case... done with the approval and knowledge of the victim's family", the police chief said.

The friend told Wallen to take a photo of the area, which she did.

Wallen's sister received several texts from Laura Wallen's phone on Labor Day-Sept. The picture was later used to find the location of her body.

A student who knew Wallan described her as a teacher who went above and beyond.

"Laura is in the loving arms of God now", her father, Mark Wallen, told a News4 reporter via text message on Wednesday. According to court documents, her body was discovered Wednesday in a shallow grave near property owned by Tessier's friend in Damascus, about 38 miles west of Washington, D.C.

Her boyfriend, Tyler Tessier, had stood with her parents Monday at a news conference and made a soulful plea for her safe return. The property had open fields and woods, police said.
