Congress Approves Resolution Condemning White Nationalists

Senate prods Trump to move against white supremacist groups

The House and Senate have unanimously passed a joint resolution urging President Trump to denounce racist and anti-Semitic hate groups, sending a blunt message of dissatisfaction with the president's initial, equivocal response to the white nationalist violence in Charlottesville, Va. last month.

The president held a meeting with Sen.

As ESPN condemns on of its stars for calling President Trump a white supremacist, Congress has decided to make the president legally state that he does not endorse white supremacy.

Scott was not the only Republican who criticized Trump's response to the Charlottesville violence.

You know you are living in a country of shame when Congress has to pass legislation to get your nation's president to condemn White supremacy.

"We had an opportunity to discuss everything from diversifying the echo chamber, as well as protecting this notion of fairness that is a part and parcel of who we are as Americans", said Scott, R-S.C.

The administration has also thanked the government of neighboring Bangladesh for hosting the refugees . The UN Security Council on Wednesday called for an end to the violence.

The topic of the conversation is race relations in America, especially after what happened in Charlottesville, Virginia. "You look at both sides - I think there's blame on both sides, and I have no doubt about it, and you don't have any doubt about it either".

An Aug. 23 poll by Quinnipiac University in CT showed 55 percent of respondents believe there is "too much prejudice in the nation today", while 59 percent said Trump's "decisions and behavior have encouraged white supremacist groups".

People fly into the air as a vehicle drives into a group of protesters demonstrating against a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA, Saturday, Aug. 12, 2017. He also proposed noting that Trump "failed to condemn white supremacists and erroneously blamed "both sides" for the violence".

Tim Scott and the president are set to have a one-on-one meeting Wednesday, a source told The Associated Press.

Sen. Scott told CBS News that he came away from the meeting believing that Trump had "reflected" on the controversy and felt that his comments had been misconstrued. "But the focus was primarily on solutions moving forward", Sanders said. But as we learned last month, the president's immediate and unequivocal condemnation of racist groups is no longer a given. In July, the Senate forced Trump's hand when it approved new sanctions on Russian Federation, sending him a bill that the White House had argued would limit the administration's flexibility to conduct diplomacy.
