Senator Al Franken raises concerns over iPhone X's Face ID

Despite trying to assuage fears its new facial recognition technology, known as Face ID is safe and secure, Apple has received an inquiry from the U.S. Senate about just how safe it really is. "Face ID learns your face".

Apple has confirmed elsewhere that Face ID is disabled after just two unsuccessful attempts, unlike Touch ID, which requires a passcode to be manually typed in only after five failed tries.

All of you who have seen the Apple iPhone launch event either in person or on the live stream might have noticed that Apple senior vice president of software, Craig Federighi struggling for a second for unlocking the iPhone X using Face ID during the presentation. He then tried again with the same phone and the instead of unlocking, the iPhone asked for the passcode.

The simplest explanation of what happened onstage during Federighi's demonstration was that the Face ID feature did not recognize the Apple executive's face.

'After failing a number of times, because they weren't Craig, the iPhone did what it was created to do, which was to require his passcode'.

Franken also questioned how the company would respond to law enforcement requests to access Apple's faceprint data or its Face ID system.

At the Keynote, Craig Federighi started the demo, he picked up the phone and looked at to unlock it using Face ID.

Apple has finally taken the wraps off the new iPhone X, confirming details that have been widely rumoured for months. The display is OLED as well, meaning you should get deeper blacks and a generally better experience - enhanced by the Super Retina display.

Netherlands rise seven places in FIFA Rankings
The Sunil Chhetri-led side notched up two victories and a draw in three matches after they were placed 97th last month. Brazil slips one spot to No. 2, while European champion Portugal is up three spots to No. 3.

There's still no 3.5mm headphone jack, but for the first time, the iPhone will support Qi wireless charging.

As the screen now takes up the entire surface area of the phone, the home button has been completely eliminated and with it, the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

The event was particularly unhelpful for Apple because many have taken it as evidence that the company's facial recognition technology isn't actually read.

"Apple itself could use the data to benefit other sectors of its business, sell it to third parties for surveillance purposes, or receive law enforcement requests to access it facial recognition system - eventual uses that may not be contemplated by Apple customers", Franken wrote. As people use the iPhone X in the coming months, there will be more definite answers to these questions. It is also the most expensive. The smartphone ships on November 3.

You can preorder the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus from 15 September, and it'll be available from 22 September.

What safeguards has Apple implemented to prevent the unlocking of the iPhone X when an individual other than the owner of the device holds it up to the owner's face? At £999 for the 64GB model, the iPhone X is the most expensive smartphone Apple - or probably most major smartphone vendors - has ever produced. Last year, a judge ruled that a suspect had to unlock an iPhone using a fingerprint.

When it comes to storage, the iPhone X comes in only two sizes - 64GB and 256GB. The dot projector beams out more than 30,000 invisible infrared dots, and the infrared camera captures an image.

The iPhone X is clearly gaining attention for all the right and wrong reasons - the good ones being a new iPhone design with the FaceID and the bad ones include the FaceID.
