Google puts women in lower level, lower paying jobs, new lawsuit says

The lawsuit has been filed by three former female employees of Google - Kelly Ellis, Holly Pease, and Kelli Wisuri.

Google is fighting with the Labor Department of the United States, for the discrimination as the female employees in the company, who are now holding the technology jobs are just 20 percent and for the global workforce they only 31 percent.

Gina Scigliano, a Google spokesperson, said in a statement to NPR that "we disagree with the central allegations" in the lawsuit.

Three former Google employees filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the company on Thursday over charges of unfair pay and promotion. Months before that, the Department of Labor started investigating Google for pay discrimination.

But Google says that according to its own analysis, it pays women 99.7 cents for every dollar a man makes.

The Labor Department said it found pay disparities during a compliance review it launched in 2015. Because Google is a federal contractor, it is required to submit to such audits. Two standard deviations is considered statistically significant; six or seven standard deviations means there is a one in 100 million chance that the disparity is occurring randomly or by chance. Ellis was put into less-prestigious front-end development team, although she had experience in backend development, the department in Google where the company nearly exclusively hires male employees, alleged Ellis. When a male software engineer who graduated alongside Ellis was hired a few weeks later, he was assigned to a "Level 4" position, which came with a better salary, bonuses, raises, and equity. (She later dropped the suit.) That same year, a former software engineer, Tina Huang, sued Twitter because she believed the company systematically bypassed women for promotions. The suit also requests Google to stop paying their female employees less than male employees.

Horan released the single " Slow Hands ", which went to No. 1 in 44 countries and is now working on his debut solo album. As part of the announcement, fans have also been given a glimpse of the album's artwork, which also features its name.

Google responded by denying the allegations and saying it has "extensive systems in place to ensure that we pay fairly". Promoting them more slowly.

Ellis reportedly quit Google in July 2014 on grounds that the culture was sexist.

Pease was hired as a corporate network manager in 2005, according to the complaint.

All these three employees left the company over the past year. "Employers need to be highly vigilant - there's still more to be done".

James Damore - the engineer who was sacked by the company over a memo criticising its's diversity efforts - said that the tech giant was discriminating in hiring practices.

The lawsuit details examples of when the female employees were placed in job classifications below their level of experience and denied promotions. Furthermore, the company added men with equivalent and less experience to Level 3. It claims that Google "has channeled and segregated" women into career paths that just don't offer the same progression opportunities and pay.
