Qatar's Emir heads to Germany, France and U.S. to discuss Gulf dispute

Representative to the United Nations Obaid Salem Al Zaabi making a point

Qatar is ready to sit at the negotiating table to try to end a dispute with its Gulf Arab neighbours, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani said on Friday in Berlin.

The Emir was welcomed on arrival at Esenboga International Airport by Turkish Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mehmet Simsek, Governor of Ankara Ercan Topaca and Qatar's Ambassador to Turkey Salem bin Mubarak Al Shafi in addition to senior officials and members of the Qatari Embassy.

Erdogan has been a major supporter of Doha since June 5, when Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt cut ties and blockaded Qatar, accusing it of supporting "terrorism" and fostering ties with their rival Iran.

Few countries, including Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Egyptian government which came to power after toppling the country's first democratically elected president, Mohammed Morsi, designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organisation.

Erdogan strongly spoke out against the sanctions imposed on Qatar by the Saudi-led bloc. The statement was in response to the remarks made in the speech of the Qatari delegate during the panel discussion on the unilateral measures of human rights and coercion during the current session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Tuz said Turkey played a vital role in the crisis which could lead the process to a different level. Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani was to meet in the morning in Berlin with German Chancellor Angela Merkel before flying to Paris for talks with French President Emmanuel Macron.

"Engagement with Qatar can only be in the best interests of the United States and the Jewish community, as we cannot allow Qatar to be ostracized by its neighbors and pushed into Iran's sphere of influence", Muzin was quoted as saying in the report.

The two leaders reaffirmed commitment to resolve the crisis through diplomatic means, and to cooperate on regional problems, sources added.

"US President Donald Trump was planning to kick off diplomatic negotiations between the Gulf states and Israel, but it was going to be impossible because of Qatar's presence", he said.
