Rights group slams Myanmar's crackdown on ethnic Rohingya

But with more than 230,000 children estimated to have arrived in Bangladesh, many more will need help, Mr. Boulierac said.

Myanmar's de facto leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, has canceled a trip this month to the UN General Assembly as the crisis escalates.

The decision to deport Rohingyas comes as Myanmar's military crackdown in Rakhine has forced hundreds of thousands of Rohingyas to seek shelter in Bangladesh, in a process the United Nations has described as ethnic cleansing.

Antonio Guterres said alleged attacks by security forces on Rohingya villagers were completely unacceptable.

Myanmar authorities have denied the military is setting fire to villages, instead insisting that the Rohingya have set their own homes ablaze.

Last week, Myanmar said it was negotiating with Russian Federation and China to block any statements from the council, but both countries supported Wednesday's condemnation of the violence. We are trying to take care of the security issue in many other places.

"As NPR's Colin Dwyer writes, the stream of refugees crossing the border into Bangladesh have brought with them "[reports] of unbridled murder and arson, rape and persecution. sketching a stark portrait of government violence".

Jon Jones: 'The Truth is I Would Never do Steroids'
Jones has vehemently denied taking performance-enhancing steroids but could be suspended for up to four years if found guilty. The CSAC made that move, after it reported Jones' B sample from UFC 214 tested positive for the anabolic steroid, Turinabol .

The UNHCR had said at least 2,70,000 Rohingya refugees have fled from the violence-affected Myanmar's Northern Rakhine state and sought refuge in Bangladesh where the limited shelter capacity is already exhausted.

"When Aung San Suu Kyi was in Ottawa, I expressed our deep concern for the situation the Rohingya were in then, and we continue to put pressure on the Myanmar government and all authorities to take concrete action to de-escalate this awful conflict", he said at the time.

The UN said the Myanmar army's violent crackdown was a "textbook example of ethnic cleansing", and called for "immediate steps" to end the violence.

"The government's attempts to shift the blame to the Rohingya population are blatant lies".

The Indian government on Thursday told the Supreme Court that Rohingya refugees were "a threat to national security", pushing back against condemnation of its plans to deport them.

Critics have called for the Nobel laureate to be stripped of her peace prize amid reports of "ethnic cleansing" against Rohingya Muslimse. "The state counselor is focusing to calm the situation in Rakhine state".

United Nations chief Antonio Guterres called the persecution of Rohingyas "catastrophic" and "completely unacceptable", and asked Myanmar authorities to immediately suspend the military crackdown. Hasina further said she would raise the Rohingya issue at the UN General Assembly in NY later this month.
