Facebook reportedly gives Mueller records of fraudulent accounts for Russian Federation investigation

Facebook gave more Russian ad details to special counsel Mueller than to Congress

Special counsel and former FBI Director Robert Mueller obtained a search warrant that forced Facebook to hand over the ads it sold to a company known for pro-Kremlin propaganda, as well as information about them.

To obtain a warrant, experts say Mueller would have needed to prove he has a reasonable suspicion a crime was committed.

Facebook, the world's largest social network, said last week that an operation likely based in Russian Federation had placed thousands of USA ads with polarizing views on topics such as immigration, race and gay rights on the site during a two-year period through May 2017.

As CNN reported Thursday, Facebook is still not sure whether pro-Kremlin groups may have made other ad buys meant to influence American politics that it simply hasn't discovered yet.

"Our analysis suggests these accounts and Pages were affiliated with one another and likely operated out of Russia", Facebook said last week.

The information provided to Mueller's investigators include "copies of the ads and details about the accounts that bought them and the targeting criteria they used", the Journal reported.

There is no set number for any class of enshrinees, though between four and eight new members will be selected. Therefore, any individual who last played or coached in 2012 are eligible for the first time in 2018).

The social networking site, based in Menlo Park, Calif., has not shared such detailed information with Congress, "in part because of concerns about disrupting the Mueller probe, and possibly running afoul of USA privacy laws", the Journal reported.

Mariotti said that the Facebook warrant "means that Mueller has concluded that specific foreign individuals committed a crime by making a "contribution" in connection with an election". Facebook also gave Mueller information on the accounts that purchased the ads, according to the Journal. "To justify forcing FB to give up the info".

President Donald Trump's team has denied working with Russian Federation to win the presidency, while Russian Federation has previously said it did not meddle with the USA election.

Some were circulated before the election and mentioned candidates Clinton and Trump by name. Instead, the ads focused on spurring divisive social and political views, from topics like LGBT, race, immigration and the Second Amendment.

A Facebook spokesman told the newspaper that the company was continuing its probe and was cooperating with federal authorities.

Warner wants a public hearing to force Facebook to account for what happened on its platform during the election, and has been frustrated at the company's disclosures to date.
