Farmington teacher accused of mistreating student on leave

Stone Chaney had just started his first week of sixth grade, according to WDIV, when, on September 7, the teacher laid hands on him.

The next day, he said, he was scolded by another teacher for the same thing.

Farmington Public Schools said in a statement shared with WDIV that the district supports the right of each student to decide whether to participate in the pledge.

He said students have the right to skip the Pledge of Allegiance.

"Stone hadn't previously encountered problems for his stance and 'doesn't despise anyone for standing for the flag or saying the national anthem or the Pledge of Allegiance, '" the outlet reported. His father addressed the district directly at its last board meeting, defending his son's right to do what he wishes when the pledge is being spoken.

Chaney became emotional during a phone interview, crying as he talked about the leader he says his son has become. I told her that I don't pledge to a flag. She also told him he would need a special note to be allowed to sit.

The German ended up 11th quickest after aborting one timed lap for traffic and then spinning into the barriers on the second. McLaren and power-unit supplier Honda announced earlier that they were ending their partnership at the end of the season.

Heitsch explained the district "cannot speculate" about what the investigation will uncover but assured parents the school expects "every child and adult in our district to be treated with dignity and respect".

The Detroit News reported the teacher has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted, which the superintendent said began as soon as the school was "made aware" of what happened.

Heitsch said the district supports each student's right to decide whether to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance. "He believes in what he believes in", Chaney said. He said people have asked him in the past about hsi decision not to stand but has never had an issue - until now. "We are very disappointed that when we dropped our son off into the hands of East Middle School, we thought it would be nurturing hands".

"We don't want to paint the whole district with one whole brush", he said.

'I don't feel safe going to that school anymore because I don't know what they're going to do next, ' Stone lamented.
