'Narcos' locations manager killed while scouting in Mexico

Carlos Munoz, a veteran locations manager, was shot and killed in Mexico while scouting for season four of the Netflix series Narcos.

Portal's bullet-riddled body and auto were found in a remote area near the border of Hidalgo state, which is said to have the highest murder rate in Mexico.

The upcoming season of Narcos shifts its setting from Colombia to Mexico, centering around the fearsome Juarez drug cartel. The first two seasons of the show looked at the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar, the leader of the Cartel de Medellin. It's now unclear if Portal's death will affect production or whether the murder will move production back to Columbia. His body was found in a compact auto with several gun shot wounds hours after leaving for the site. Officials found his body was found inside his vehicle in the town of San Bartolo Actopan, Infobae reported. That entity, the most populated of the country, is the one that has more homicides.

Netflix has issued the following statement: "We are aware of the passing of Carlos Muñoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family".

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Munoz was an experienced location manager who had worked on numerous Hollywood productions in Mexico, including Tony Scott's Man on Fire, Mel Gibson's Apocalypto and the latest Bond film Spectre".
