Red Sox and Yankees fined in sign-stealing spat

Commissioner Rob Manfred has, like so many of our wise centrist pundits, determined that both sides in the scuffle are bad, and fined both teams for using banned electronics during games.

In the wake of iGate, the Red Sox are getting off easy - and now the Yankees are getting punished too.

The Red Sox responded by filing a complaint of their own against the Yankees, claiming the team used a camera from its YES television network to steal signs.

Red Sox president Sam Kennedy, reacting to the anti-racism banner that was hung from the Green Monster Wednesday night, defended the area by telling WEEI, "Let me say this about Boston and the state of MA: we are extremely proud to live here and be here".

The Red Sox pitching staff set a single-game franchise record with 24 strikeouts. They got off easy. The sign-stealing spat was first reported by the New York Times on September 5. But he didn't act surprised by it, either. First, the violation in question occurred without the knowledge of ownership or front-office personnel. "I don't know if the right word is 'relief, ' but it is nice to finally get home", Rays right-hander Chris Archer told reporters while focusing on baseball after a 3-2 loss to the Yankees on Wednesday. No Club complained about the conduct in question at the time and, without prompting from another Club or my Office, the Yankees halted the conduct in question.

"My fastball command was off and I made some mistakes with home runs, but it's going to happen", said Sale, who is 3-3 since the beginning of August after starting the season 13-4. "There won't be any internal fines".

U.S. exhausting patience for diplomatic solution to North Korea crisis: McMaster, Haley
The last set of sanctions included restrictions on North Korea's oil imports and a ban on its textile exports. McMaster said new sanctions on North Korea are just going into effect and need to be given a chance to work.

Well, at least not so brazenly.

"You start to look at the numbers as they are and the things that we have to go by, and maybe sometimes people don't put a lot of weight in wins, losses and ERA but they're meaningful and he starts to put himself in a very small group around the American League", Farrell said after Pomeranz went six solid innings to win his 16th game. Typically, it involves a runner on second base peeking in at the catcher and trying to decode his signs.

Red Sox president Dave Dombrowski said the amount of Boston's fine was what he expected.

Adding that the Yankees also "fully cooperated" with the investigation, Manfred said: "We learned that during an earlier championship season [prior to 2017] the Yankees had violated a rule governing the use of the dugout phone". While an Major League Baseball investigation found insufficient evidence of Boston's accusation that the Yankees used YES Network cameras to gain an unfair advantage, it uncovered a different violation and the Yankees were hit with a lesser fine on Friday.

But if any team was thinking of using the bullpen phone for anything other than calling down to the bullpen, well, not so fast. Those 13 extra-innings wins are the most the Red Sox have had since 1982.

Manfred also did not disclose how much he fined the Yankees but said it less than the Red Sox's punishment. "We're looking forward to moving beyond".
