Three psychologists in all told jurors they diagnosed Weier as having a delusional disorder, moving from fantasy to delusion - and believing in the fictional character Slender Man so much that she and a friend, Morgan Geyser, stabbed a classmate 19 times and seriously injuring the victim when all three girls were 12.
Anissa Weier was 12 when she was arrested for the crime in 2014. A supplication understanding required her to put in no less than three years in a mental doctor's facility if judged rationally sick, and 10 years in jail if not.
Maura McMahon, Weier's attorney, said she trusted the case uncovered that kids might be taking care of mental issues lost on grown-ups who have turned out to be excessively occupied with their own particular lives, making it impossible to focus and assets proliferate to help them.
The defense is trying to convince jurors that Anissa Weier was suffering from a mental illness at the time of the stabbing at a Waukesha park in 2014 and therefore is not criminally responsible.
But prosecutors said she knew what she was doing was wrong. Westendorf was appointed by a judge to evaluate Weier, now 15, after her plea.
Slender Man, a fictional creature of the internet, is a paranormal being who lurks near forests and absorbs, kills or carries off his victims.
Brit confirmed dead after crocodile attack in Sri Lanka
It's understood he was dragged into a lagoon while washing his hands. "This is the first-known crocodile attack in Sri Lanka". FT managing editor James Lamont told the paper: "Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones".
Jurors on Wednesday saw video clips of investigators questioning Weier after the attack. She was not accessible a short time later, but rather McMahon said she was diminished and cried following the decision. That delusion was so strong, Van Rybroek said, that Weier "couldn't stop herself at the moment it mattered most", and helped stab Leutner even though she knew it was wrong. Westendorf testified at Weier's mental capacity trial that she believes Weier suffered from a shared delusional disorder that left her unable to conform her conduct to the law when she and Morgan Geyser tried to kill their friend, Payton Leutner, in 2014.
A detective who interviewed Leutner testified in the Waukesha County courtroom that Geyser had been scaring her beforehand with stories about characters from a horror website. Co-defendant Morgan Geyser is scheduled to go on trial next month.
A lawyer for Anissa Weier said that her mind was "broken" when the attack happened, the Associated Press reports.
Both Weier and Geyser were charged with being a party to attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
Anissa Weier, now 15, had pleaded guilty in August to being a party to attempted second-degree homicide.
