Romelu Lukaku: United fans meant well but let's move on from chant

The anti-discrimination group Kick It Out asked the club to ban the chant, but a section of fans maintained the chant was not offensive or racist as it referenced a positive stereotype.

The Spaniard, who managed Lukaku at Everton, has been impressed with the 24-year-old's development since his £75m move to Old Trafford this summer and has already seen a "big difference" in his game.

The chant has been condemned by numerous United fan groups, and Lukaku hopes the whole controversy can be consigned to history. It says the lyrics, about the size of the Belgium striker's p***s, are "offensive and discriminatory".

The Football Association has asked United to keep them informed of how they are combating the issue. Racist stereotypes are never acceptable in football or wider society, irrespective of showing support for a player. "Fans have meant well with their songs but let's move on together", read the statement on the club's official Twitter account.

Bond Traders Smash Yield Curve Flatter on Fed Inflation Mystery
Shares of U.S. banks shot to a six-month high on Wednesday afternoon, lifted by a sharp rise in bond yields after the U.S. The Fed, though, has yet to achieve its other objective of stabilizing prices at a 2 percent annual rate.

And it is thought United stewards were told to stop any supporters heard singing it in Wednesday's 4-1 Carabao Cup third-round defeat of Burton Albion.

The Belgian worldwide has been in sublime form for his new club, with five goals in as many games for the Premier League leaders, since his £75million ($NZ139m) move from Everton in August.

In addition to this, the Belgian netted his first Champions League goal for his new side in United's 3-0 win over Basel. "Greater Manchester Police have had no complaints about the song at all".

Lukaku will be looking to add more goals to his tally when Manchester United play away to Southampton on Saturday.
