Quake event detected in northeast North Korea: CENC

A shallow 3.5-magnitude quake hit North Korea near the country's nuclear test site Saturday, US seismologists said, in what China's seismic service said was a "suspected explosion", but Seoul deemed it a "natural earthquake".

"The exchange of threats is quite bad, unacceptable", Sergei Lavrov told reporters at a news conference".

Donald Trump has added economic action to his fiery military threats against North Korea and renewed his rhetorical offensive against Kim Jong Un, calling the reclusive leader "obviously a madman".

The North carried out its sixth nuclear test - and most powerful to date - on September 3, sparking worldwide outrage and a fresh round of sanctions.

In a statement posted to its website late Friday night, the ministry reiterated the terms of the latest resolution, writing that United Nations member states would not export more than 500,000 barrels of refined petroleum products to the North in the final three months of 2017, and 2 million annually starting next year.

China accounts for some 90 per cent of the North's trade, making its cooperation critical to any efforts to derail Pyongyang's development of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles.

It has pushed a tit-for-tat proposal in which North Korea suspends its arms programmes in return for a halt to United States military drills in the region, which has been ignored.

Netanyahu on Iran Nuclear Accord: "Fix it - or Cancel it"
The Iranian president also said that he believes most countries in the United Nations support the Iran nuclear deal. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called on the world to change or cancel a nuclear deal with Iran.

Tensions between the United States and North Korea have ratcheted up after Pyongyang conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear test September 3, prompting the United Nations to impose even tougher sanctions last week.

The event follows a turbulent week between the US and North Korea, with leaders Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un trading insults.

It mentioned, among a string of examples, how People's Daily had said North Korea's weapons program was "a noose put around its own neck".

China doesn't disclose details of trade with the isolated North, so it was not immediately clear how large the possible reduction might be.

The measure could force Chinese banks or Russian importers to decide between doing business with North Korea or being blacklisted by the United States.

"There is still hope for peace and we must not give up".
