Children's Health Insurance Program in ND OK for now

A program that provides health coverage to some 9 million children was allowed by the Republican-controlled Congress to expire over the weekend. Everyone in Congress knew the deadline was approaching.

The whole mess is a microcosm for the malignant incompetence of the Republican-led government.

The 20-year-old Children's Health Insurance Program is gap insurance for low-income families who don't qualify for Medicaid. "The least we can do is put partisanship aside to protect our children, the most vulnerable among us". The program offered services like procedural checkups, immunizations, doctor visits, prescriptions, Dental and vision care, Inpatient and outpatient hospital care, Laboratory and X-ray services and Emergency services. It was influential in letting down the percentage of children who were not insured from almost 14 percent when it started to 4.5 percent in 2015.

In an email, Highland said Iowa must maintain eligibility levels through 2020 for the Medicaid expansion program, but without CHIP funding those kids would have to be funded with a smaller federal contribution. Unfortunately, the federal contribution is not open-ended: It has to be renewed every few years. Still, there is time for a renewal, she said, with many states not slated to run out of funding until winter or even spring. It ran out on September 30. But the situation is tight.

If the federal CHIP dollars are not reinstated, Capriotti said AHCCCS is looking at potential program changes that could end, freeze or reorganize it.

Some states are expected to exhaust their resources by the end of the year.

Gerard Pique: Barcelona man prepared to quit Spain duty amid independence debate
Prior to the kick-off, FC Barcelona pose for a team photo wearing shirts in the colours of Catalan flag. And we want to give our support to everyone. "Let people vote peacefully".

Part of the problem was that ObamaCare actually increased CHIP's federal contribution by 23 percent.

The CHIP program has tended to have broad bipartisan support.

But the state isn't obligated to continue Hawk-i funding if CHIP funding is exhausted, he said, so decisions would have to be made about its future if it comes to that.

- A health insurance program that covers millions of American children has expired.

"Momentum was building", Bruce Lesley, the president of First Focus, a children's advocacy group in Washington, told the Los Angeles Times. "We don't have unlimited resources to cover this population", Piper said. "No one was even taking our calls". Without the new money, the Department of Health and Human Services estimates 2,800 health center sites would close and eliminate more than 50,000 jobs and access to care for about 9 million patients. In some instances, the state receives significant federal match, upwards of 96 percent of the cost of health services. "They're not totally panicked yet". Arnquist, who lives in Tucson, said knowing her son has health insurance makes her feel relieved. There are now around 9 million kids in the country that rely on CHIP - kids that would likely go uninsured if CHIP wasn't an option. It was originally co-sponsored by [Utah Senator Orrin] Hatch, a Republican, and the late [Massachusetts Senator] Ted Kennedy", the New Republic explains, adding, "M$3 ost Democrats and Republicans agree that the program is a successful one.

Another nearly $10 billion is projected to come from shifting money set aside for Obamacare's prevention and public health fund to community health centers, and from changes that would help state Medicaid programs avoid medical costs from people who have health coverage from other sources.
