Facebook Messenger Lite Android app now available in US, UK

Facebook launches Messenger Lite in US, UK, Canada & Ireland

It is estimated that there would be around 47 million times downloads since launch, led by India and Brazil. Facebook Messenger Lite may soon make its way to the UK, US, Ireland and Canada. It originally launched in five countries, Kenya, Tunisia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Venezuela, in October 2016. There's still no plan for an iOS version, though.

Facebook's decision to release the app in these developed markets seems to be a strategic move.

Facebook's "Lite" version of its Messenger app is now available for Android users in the Google Play Store. According to Facebook, there are over a billion users who don't have access to faster 3G or 4G speeds around the world, so the Lite version of the app was created to allow users on slow networks to get a full Messenger experience.

Still, Messenger Lite could appeal to a certain subset of users with limited financial resources to keep the Internet tap open, a.k.a. teens.

Marilyn Manson Cancels Multiple Shows After Onstage Injury
Marilyn Manson had performed three dates of his three-month-long tour at the time of the incident . A rep for the musician said that it is hoped the cancelled shows can be rescheduled.

The Messenger Lite offers most key features that you would expect in the Messenger Android app, including messaging, making voice calls, and group chats. The senior officials also told that the app would utilize much less data connection as matched to other social networking sites or applications. That is why Facebook has introduced a new "Lite" version of the Messenger app for #Android. That is not to say that adults won't use it. People in developed countries also have to deal with expensive data. People seem to enjoy its simple nature and data-friendly approach, even if they do have high-end smartphones.

Messenger Lite was initially intended for markets where Internet bandwidth remains a premium.

Messenger Lite is admittedly an odd prospect in markets like the U.S. and the UK.
