Facebook to Add Facial Recognition Feature Soon for Unlocking Account

Facebook may use facial recognition to protect your account details

"We are testing a new feature for people who want to quickly and easily verify account ownership during the account recovery process", Facebook told TechCrunch.

When asked, Facebook confirmed that they are testing a new feature for quick and easy account recoveries. Therefore, the password will still be the primary verification system, failing which the facial recognition feature will be used to log in the user.

Facebook seems to be testing a new way for its users to authenticate their identity: Facial recognition. Both devices support facial recognition so Facebook aims to use the hardware in those devices to their full potential.

With the ubiquity and utility of Facebook (Fake news controversies notwithstanding), keeping access to a Facebook account can be invaluable for many. The process of recovering a Facebook account after you forget the password isn't hard but the social media network could soon make things a lot easier. The Facebook app will then scan the face and compare it with the tagged images and videos of the user uploaded on the profile. The social giant said the feature is now undergoing testing, but did not provide a specific timeline for its release. If the match is found then the Facebook account will open.

Facebook will hire 1000 employees to control adverts amid Russian Federation investigation
Facebook has revealed that around 10 million people viewed the political ads taken out by a Russian entity on its platform. In many cases, the ads encouraged people to follow pages on those issues. "This is an issue we have debated a great deal".

However, it appears to be part of wider plans to integrate facial recognition technology more widely into the social media service.

Using a combination of infrared cameras and 3D depth sensing technology, the software will help recognize a user's face, or the Face ID, which can subsequently be used to unlock the phone, authorize Apple Pay payments, and even create customized animated emojis.

So we think, the facial scanning feature wouldn't be a failure if Facebook adds it.
