Force India 'named in Vijay Mallya money laundering'

Liquor baron Vijay Mallya

He was released on bail immediately after Tuesday's arrest, and is due to face a full extradition hearing starting on December 4.

"Many allegations are extraordinary and you will hear it in the next hearing, no doubt", said Mallya as he left Westminster Magistartes' Court on Tuesday.

He also said that the British government needs to send out a strong message by not encouraging people like Mallya to reside in their country.

India is seeking Mallya's extradition over loans to him tied to his defunct Kingfisher Airlines after the businessman, co-owner of the Force India team, moved to Britain in March previous year.

"I have not eluded any court".

Tesco restores dividend as profits rise
Tesco chief executive Dave Lewis has hailed "strong progress" at the supermarket as sales rose for the seventh quarter in a row. In Tesco's prime market, the United Kingdom, like-for-like turnover grew 2.2 % and there was a 1.1 % increase in Ireland.

The Crown Prosecution Service, acting on behalf on the Indian government, said additional charges had been laid against Mallya in his homeland.

The Indian government has brought a new money-laundering charge against a prominent Indian tycoon who is fighting extradition from Britain.

In a statement, the lawyer representing the Indian government, Mark Summers said "The government alleges, for example, some of the funds have ended up with the Force India Formula 1 team". Force India, which started competing in F1 in 2008, is co-owned by Mallya and jailed Sahara India Parivar boss Subrata Roy.

The judge will then make a decision based on whether there is a prima facie case against Mallya and whether the alleged crimes would be offences in Britain as well as India.

Vijay Mallya has been accused of laundering money related to his Formula 1 team Force India. Known for his lavish lifestyle, Mallya made Kingfisher beer a global brand and ran a now-defunct airline with the same name.
