Mitsubishi e-Evolution previews future SUV with artificial intelligence

Mitsubishi e-Evolution concept - more details of brand's Tokyo star revealed

The e-Evolution will be closer to the Mitsubishi ASX or Outlander PHEV than the giant killing saloons, and will showcase where the company plans to go in the future.

Mitsubishi says the e-Evolution will feature three "high-torque and high-performance electric motors", that will be supplied "by a high-capacity battery system to deliver the smooth and powerfully responsive performance".

One of those vehicles has just been previewed before its official world debut at the upcoming Tokyo motor show later this month, where the new Mitsubishi e-Evolution will take centerstage on the manufacturer's stand. A single electric motor will reside up front, while each of the rear wheels will get its own motor.

TransCanada pulls plug on Energy East pipeline
Because regulators failed to reach a decision on the project, TransCanada expects "no recoveries of costs from third parties". Companies are not eager to invest in expensive tar sands projects unless the price of oil comes back up.

No output figures are available, but the automaker claims the system "always provides crisp and nimble handling". The system is claimed to support "drivers of all abilities", making vehicle control easier and safer and delivering the e-Evolution's driving experience to a broad audience.

In addition, the AI system inside the e-Evolution concept also has a "coaching" function, which has the ability to share knowledge with the driver and enhance the expertise, unobtrusively.

In fact, it seems as though the e-Evolution concept will emphasize a surprising amount of performance, as the AI system will also offer a "training program" of sorts, analyzing the driver's skills offering tips and pointers based on those evaluations through the infotainment system. The claimed result is a auto that behaves the way each driver wants, intensifying the driving experience irrespective of driver ability. It can also support communications between driver and home. The big news is that the concept brings back the Evolution name, but the e-Evolution concept is also a fully electric SUV, which could give the brand what it needs to make a true comeback.
