Dove Apologises For 'Racist' Facebook Advert Following Backlash

Beauty supply giant Dove has apologized and said it "missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully", after it released a Facebook advertisement many social media users deemed racially insensitive.

The ad has since been deleted.

Dove has apologised for an ad which showed a dark-skinned woman turning white after using one of its products.

She then removes her T-shirt to reveal an Asian woman.

The brand's apology has been met mostly with derision since it was issued Saturday, including threats of boycotts and questions about how the ad could have been approved in the first place.

You may need to use some soap to wash your eyes out after seeing it - but not Dove soap, of course.

The advert has sparked wide debate on social media with some accusing the brand of racism.

Crybaby upset late night hosts are making fun of him
Kimmel responded by inviting Trump to his show... with a caveat. "Now kindly stop tweeting nonsense and go do your job for once". Some, like the Late Show's Stephen Colbert , have always worn their progressive politics on their sleeve.

Dove said they "deeply regret the offense it caused", and said they were committed to representing diversity.

"What exactly were yall going for? Your creative director should be fired", another said. "Will not be buying your products anymore", one woman wrote. And a 2011 Dove ad was also criticized as racist by some viewers.

Dove has since removed the ad and tweeted an apology.

Dove is a company that has branded itself on supporting women's "real beauty" with campaigns aimed towards body positivity and empowerment.

On Sunday, The Guardian published another statement from Dove regarding the controversy over its latest ad.

"All three women are meant to demonstrate the "after" product benefit. We do not condone any activity or imagery that intentionally insults any audience", the statement read.
