Miami snaps 7-game losing streak vs. FSU with last-second victory

In a rivalry that so many times has come down to one kick, No. 13 Miami instead broke a seven-game losing streak to in-state rival Florida State in a 24-20 victory on Saturday with one ideal back-shoulder throw. He was one of the best punt returners in the ACC, but was aching to use his sure hands and speed to help Miami's offense. But their attack began clicking after the break.

Half of their six possessions were three-and-outs. Braxton Berrios hauled in a pass that would have put Miami in the red zone, but was called for offensive pass interference that pushed the Canes back to third-and 20 from the Miami 43.

The Seminoles lost an important piece on each side of the ball against the Hurricanes, with safety Trey Marshall and wide receiver Keith Gavin each leaving the game with injuries.

Rosier played a strong second half, finishing the game with 254 yards passing with three touchdowns and an interception.

FORT WORTH, Texas - Kenny Hill avoided a defender in the backfield and lunged forward through two more for a 3-yard touchdown run with 2:53 left and TCU remained the Big 12's only undefeated team. It was not entertaining football by nearly any measure until the final quarter, when a 10-3 Miami lead morphed into a slugfest that the Hurricanes emerged from with a 24-20 win. On the ensuing possession, he converted a third-and-10 before being intercepted by Stanford Samuels III two plays later. Probably none more so than former Canes player Michael Irvin. Coming into the season, he had a grand total of 5 career touchdowns.

As for Walton, he was carted off the field with 5:35 left in the game after rushing for 7 yards.

Rosier completes his first pass, finding one of his favorite targets - tight end Christopher Herndon IV - for nine yards. With Doak Campbell Stadium rocking, it seemed like the same old story with the No. 13 Miami Hurricanes (3-0), losing another lead in the second half.

Rosier misses Herndon high on third-and-one, Hurricanes have yet to get a first down.

Little did she know that the game, by then more than three hours long, was evolving into the longest run-on sentence in history. But Donnie surely appreciates the unparalleled support from his sister, and Western Michigan still won the game...

Book threw for a score and had two interceptions.

"We made it a rivalry again", said Berrios, who led the Hurricanes with eight catches for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

Akers rushed for 121 yards on 20 carries, while Patrick tallied 91 on 11 carries. Florida State has faced a far more rigorous slate, but the team is struggling with freshman quarterback James Blackman at the helm after Deondre Francois went down in the opener, resulting in the team's inability to put points on the board as they are averaging just 18 points per game, far less than the 35.1 they averaged a year ago. ESPN's production received criticism, however, because its yellow first-down line moved and was crooked on the play.

Both times, the Hurricanes sped down the field behind junior quarterback Malik Rosier to go ahead.

The Seminoles finished the first half with three tackles for loss and a sack, allowing the Hurricanes to muster just 1.9 yards per play.

With Saturday's loss, the Seminoles sit in a risky position - three more losses will put them at six, which means no bowl game for the first time in more than 30 years. Their sustained drives gave them a 19:07 to 10:53 advantage in time of possession.

It is the first time since 1974 that the Seminoles have dropped their first two home games of a season.

Up Next: Miami is home in another rescheduled game due to Hurricane Irma.
