Officials said the Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting, while the Miami Beach Police Department is investigating the crashes.

A woman was shot and killed by police in Florida after she sped her auto through the streets of South Beach and ran over a police officer, news reports say.

Police said a shooting victim was still at the scene.

After people surrounded her auto, pleading with her to get out, the woman reportedly hit the gas and ran over a police officer.

Police officers then fired several shots at the driver's black BMW, striking the female driver.

CBS Miami reports it was about 6:15 p.m. when the driver of a black BMW struck two or three vehicles as she drove from Ocean Drive to Washington Avenue on 12th Street. The driver lost control and then struck a parked white SUV on the east corner of 12th Street and Washington Avenue.

Another officer opened fire, squeezing off "one or more rounds" before the woman lost control of the luxury auto and crashed into a parked SUV. He was in stable condition and alert late Sunday, Oates said.

The woman was treated at the scene but later died, he said. Police confirmed a man was in the vehicle with the woman.

A pair of tourists from Philly witnessed the initial crash from their dinner at the Sugar Factory patio along Ocean Drive.

"Like four or five times", Garcia said.

"I never thought I was going to see shots in this part of the city", Garcia said, adding that the woman then lost control of the auto and hit an additional vehicle, on the corner of 12th Street and Washington Avenue.

Several people surrounded the driver, telling her to get out of the auto.
