Brexit talks: EU, Britain say ball is in the other's court

Danish minister slams Brussels 'games' over Brexit saying getting a deal is not 'rocket science'

The EU and Britain clashed Monday after British Prime Minister Theresa May said the ball was in the EU's court as Brexit negotiations entered a critical fifth round.

A report that aerospace manufacturer BAE Systems is planning to cut more than 1,000 jobs did little to ease those concerns that without progress in the talks, firms will start to make staffing and relocation decisions.

She said: 'I voted remain, I voted remain for good reasons at the time.

But before May had given the speech, European Commission spokesman Margaritis Schinas had told reporters in Brussels that "there has been so far no solution found on step one, which is the divorce proceedings".

London wants to begin talks on the future, including a possible EU-UK trade deal, as soon as possible. Brussels is particularly alarmed by the leadership crisis engulfing the British prime minister, who is facing a plot to oust her after a catastrophic, mishap-strewn speech at her Conservative Party's conference.

- Britain will not revoke Article 50, which would stop the Brexit talks and keep Britain in the EU.

Britain has just over one year to negotiate the terms of the divorce and the outlines of the future relationship before it is due to leave in late March 2019.

Trump to Nominate Homeland Chief of Staff as New Security Secretary
She now serves as Kelly's principal deputy chief of staff and was also his chief of staff at the Department of Homeland Security. After Kelly became chief of staff to Trump, Nielsen became his deputy chief of staff and special assistant to the president.

The PM added: "What I'm going to say to Nina is that we will look at the arrangements that we would put in place in relation to 'no-deal.' We're doing that at the moment - government across the board is doing work on that".

May, however, struck a confident tone during her speech on Monday, telling MPs: "I believe we can prove the doomsayers wrong". Such a transition is yet to be negotiated with the European Union, with cabinet ministers saying as recently as last week that they thought this was achievable by the end of the...

May's comments came after Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt told media that he would vote Leave in a second referendum on Britain's membership having campaigned for Remain in the run-up to last year's vote.

Asked why she could not say she had changed her mind, given that she was leading the country into Brexit, she replied: "Yes and I'm Prime Minister ensuring I'm going to deliver Brexit for the British people".

Those differences were aired again on Monday with negative briefings in the local media against finance minister Philip Hammond, who supports prolonging the status quo with the European Union for as long as possible, and foreign minister Boris Johnson, who angered some Conservatives for setting his own Brexit red lines.

Liberal Democrat deputy leader Jo Swinson said: "It is staggering that even the Prime Minister isn't convinced by the Government's approach to Brexit". After May's bungled election, her failure to unite the cabinet and a poor party conference, "the writing is on the wall", he said.

Nina said: "I'm extremely anxious about my future". "We should have no fears about a "no deal" scenario".
