Website Down Detector is tracking the issues on its Facebook outage chart.

Thousands of people across the globe reported being met with error pages as they tried accessing the social media site.

Reports started coming in early Wednesday morning and peaked at around 11:00am ET.

At this time, the most affected areas of the outage include the East and West coasts of the U.S.as well as Europe. The hashtag '#facebookdown' is trending on Twitter in several countries, including India.

Facebook said it was aware that some users were now having trouble accessing both Facebook and Instagram, Reuters reports.

According to The Mirror, the social media sites began having issues at 11:09 a.m.

Facebook reportedly confirmed the outages with a statement posted to Facebook, which is not accessible by a large portion of its users.
