Facebook launches U.S. food order, delivery service

Users will now be able to order food directly from restaurants such as Papa John's, TGI Friday's and El Pollo Loco. You head to the new "Order Food" section of Facebook, find the local spot you're craving, and then hit "start order". It lets you browse available restaurant options and choose which of the available delivery services you'd like to have bring it to you; you can filter by location, delivery versus pickup, price range, cuisine, and whether or not the restaurant is open.

Facebook still gets to record which restaurant the user selects, which is likely to become another bit of personal data the company collects every day. "If you don't have an account with that service, you can quickly and easily sign up, without leaving the Facebook app", Himel wrote.

As The Verge points out, though, you won't be getting your food from any Facebook-branded delivery guys in gray hoodies and designer sneakers. Basically, the company is introducing an in-app browser so you can order a meal. You will also pay within Facebook, in an experience powered by either Delivery.com or Slice. It'll be available in the United States only, at least initially, through Facebook's mobile apps for iOS and Android, and through your desktop browser.

Rose McGowan Accuses Harvey Weinstein of Rape, Claims Amazon Studios Ignored Her
In subsequent tweets, she urges Bezos to stop funding "alleged [pedophiles] and sexual harassers" in the industry. The social network's lack of transparency has led to a great deal of frustration and confusion.

The company is partnering with several established food delivery services including Delivery.com and DoorDash. So the next time you're scrolling through Facebook on the couch and you decide you're in the mood for pizza, you just have to move your thumb a little bit, and a few taps later, pizza will be on its way.

The new addition has been in testing since 2016, Facebook says.

It's another phase of Facebook's continued efforts to make its app extra-sticky, and reduce the number of times users feel the need to exit it.
