Former 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick files grievance against National Football League over alleged collusion

Former 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick files grievance against National Football League over alleged collusion

The grievance filed on Sunday alleges that the National Football League teams and their owners "have colluded to deprive Mr. Kaepernick of employment rights in retaliation for Mr. Kaepernick's leadership and advocacy for equality and social justice and his bringing awareness to peculiar institutions still undermining racial equality in the United States". The claim filed by Kaepernick and his lawyer, Mark Geragos, argues that this goes against the CBA's rules prohibiting teams from working together to make decisions about player contracts.

Kaepernick chose to kneel last season during the national anthem.

Since Kaepernick started his protests during the anthem about racial profiling and police treatment of minorities in 2016, the San Francisco 49ers released him.

Kaepernick, who led the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2013, left San Francisco last season and has not been picked up since.

"It sure does seem like he's being blackballed", said Reid, who protested along with Kaepernick last season and continues to do so even with the quarterback no longer on the team.

Qualcomm wants iPhone sales, manufacturing banned in China
This is the latest strike in a legal war between the two companies, which started out in the USA and has since expanded worldwide. Instead, Apple said that the royalty payments it owed to Qualcomm should be based on the actual cost of the technology only.

Kaepernick may have a good case as there have been owners, like John Mara of the New York Giants, who have publicly spoken on the matter and said that they would not hire him, while the Denver Broncos reportedly would not pursue him under any circumstances.

Under the collective bargaining agreement between the league and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA), teams are prohibited from conspiring on the fate of a particular player. Kaepernick's camp will have to provide addition evidence to prove collusion. NFLPA said it has been in regular contact with Kaepernick, and "Our union has a duty to assist Mr. Kaepernick as we do all players and we will support him".

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has denied the league has deliberately kept Kaepernick off of rosters, but as quarterbacks have become injured in recent weeks he had not been given a tryout by any team, at least in public.

The Tennessee Titans needed a quarterback earlier this month when Marcus Mariota was injured. Team officials said at the time that they would have cut the quarterback had he not opted out.

The Green Bay Packers could be in the market this week after losing Aaron Rodgers to a broken collarbone on Sunday. He finished the year with 16 touchdowns and only four interceptions in 12 games.
