Legendary Indonesian goalkeeper Huda passes away following tragic mid-game collision

Choirul Huda, the goalkepper for Persela Lamongan in the Indionesian first division, has died this Sunday after colliding with his teammate Ramón Rodrigues.

Doctor Zaki Mubarok said of Huda: "He was just brought to the hospital still breathing, but was lifeless at around (5pm)".

The 38-year-old collapsed towards the end of the first half after a three-way collision during the match.

Huda made close to 500 appearances for Persela during his almost 20-year long career, and was also a civil servant.

He chose to let it go because he didn't want to be ostracized by someone with power and influence. Crews said he was at a Hollywood function past year with his wife when the incident happened.

The goalkeeper immediately clutched his face around the jaw area in agony after the collision and was later rushed to a nearby hospital.

Huda was declared dead at 5.15pm, surrounded by the Persela squad who were with him at the Regional General Hospital in Lamongan. "We did not have time to see a doctor, only to see his body".

The club paid tribute to the sporting legend on Twitter following news of his death.

Dr Nugroho added that the initial analysis showed the "possibility of head trauma and neck trauma", while the collision caused a "cardiac arrest". He joined Persela in 1999 and stayed there for his entire career making more than 500 appearances for the club.
