Taliban says freed hostage's allegations of rape and murder are false

Former hostage Joshua Boyle said upon arriving back in Canada that the Haqqani network in Afghanistan had killed his infant daughter and raped his wife during the years they were held in captivity

Boyle told The Canadian Press that conditions during the five-year ordeal changed over time as the family was shuffled among at least three prisons.

The youngster, who was born in captivity with his three siblings, appeared to be happy as he played with his father on Saturday.

The couple also have a newborn daughter.

Coleman, her husband, Joshua Boyle, and the three children she bore in five years in captivity were rescued Wednesday when Pakistani forces, alerted by US intelligence, ambushed a convoy of Islamic extremists transporting the hostages near the Afghan border.

Freed Canadian hostage Joshua Boyle says he believes he and his wife were targeted for kidnapping because she was visibly pregnant at the time.

He added that he doesn't understand why Boyle refused to board an American plane following the family's rescue by Pakistani soldiers. "They used a bucket", Boyle said in the video.

'Three days ago they did not know what a light is or what a door is except that it is a metal thing that is locked in their face to make them a prisoner.

"And now they are seeing houses, they are seeing food, they are seeing gifts, all of this".

MORE: How much is my old £1 worth? After the release of the family, they emphasised the importance of co-operation and intelligence sharing by Washington, which has threatened to cut military aid and other punitive measures against Pakistan.

His family said some of his captors were killed and Mr Boyle suffered a shrapnel wound. "Full medical work-ups for each member of my family are being arranged right now, and God-willing the healing process — physically and mentally can begin".

Boyle provided a separate, handwritten statement then expressing disagreement with USA foreign policy.

He told a reporter on the plane that the '(US State Department's) interests are not my interests'.

The Canadian, his wife and their children were intercepted by Pakistani forces while being transported in the back of their captors' vehicle. "After that, our priority was to free the hostages safely", said Ghafoor.

"I assure you, I have never refused to board any mode of transportation that would bring me closer to home, closer to Canada and back with my family", he said.

Boyle previously had been married to the sister of Omar Khadr, a Canadian who spent 10 years at Guantanamo Bay after being captured in 2002 in a firefight at an al-Qaida compound in Afghanistan.

Officials have dismissed any link between his previous marriage and the family's capture, with one official describing it in 2014 as a 'horrible coincidence'.
