Haqqani network members raped my wife, killed her baby, says Joshua Boyle

Pak Army recovers five Western hostages

With hands trembling as he read his statement, Boyle lambasted the "stupidity and the evil" of his kidnappers, who he said were members of the Taliban-linked Haqqani network, for abducting both him and his pregnant wife during a trip to help villagers in Afghanistan's Taliban-controlled areas. She calls it unbelievable and says he told them his children are looking forward to meeting their grandparents.

Boyle and Coleman were kidnapped in 2012 while travelling in Afghanistan.

"We took care of this family like our own family members and special guests, but after frequent flying of USA drones on Kurram tribal region and its adjoining areas, it was made a decision to move them to a safer place", a Taliban official told Reuters.

The operation came after years of US pressure on Pakistan for assistance. Mr Boyle said one of the children was killed.

The youngest child is understood to be in poor health.

Speaking about the couple's children, Boyle said, "Obviously it would be of incredible importance to my family that we are able to build a secure sanctuary for our 3 surviving children to call a home, to focus on edification", Boyle told reporters.

The couple was supposed to return to the U.S.so that Coleman, then pregnant, could deliver her baby.

Trump added, "I want to thank the Pakistani government and I want to thank Pakistan".

"What I can say is taking your pregnant wife to a very risky place is to me and the kind of person I am, is unconscionable", Jim Coleman told ABC News on Wednesday.

The Taliban has released an American hostage along with her Canadian husband and their three children, a USA official and the Pakistani military said Thursday.

Mr Boyle said the Taliban, whom he referred to by their official name, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, had carried out an investigation previous year and found the Haqqani network was responsible for the crimes against his family.

"God has given me and my family unparalleled resilience and determination", Mr Boyle said in a written statement earlier.

Pakistan's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nafees Zakaria, said the rescue raid was based on a tip from USA intelligence and shows that Pakistan will act against a "common enemy" when Washington shares information.

Mr Boyle said the family hopes to put the bad ordeal behind them and "build a secure sanctuary for our three surviving children to call a home".

Boyle also expressed his displeasure with U.S. foreign policy by gesturing to one of the U.S. State Department officials and saying, "Their interests are not my interests".

USA officials have long accused Pakistan of ignoring groups like the Haqqani network.

Earlier Mr Boyle had been a spokesman for Omar Khadr, a Canadian held for 10 years at Guantánamo Bay after being captured as a teenager during a firefight at an al-Qaida compound in Afghanistan, leading to a short marriage with Zaynab Khadr, Omar's sister.

United States officials call the Haqqani group a terrorist organisation and have targeted its leaders with drone strikes.

Another US official said Mr Boyle was nervous about being in "custody" given his family ties.

The group also operates like a criminal network, and unlike the Islamic State group, it does not typically execute Western hostages, preferring to ransom them for cash.

The Canadian-born Omar Khadr was 15 when he was captured by US troops following a firefight and was taken to the USA detention center at Guantanamo Bay.

Boyle said he has spoken to his son twice today, and adds they're being sheltered in a safe place until they can return to North America.
