Mandalay Bay Security Guard Reveals Details About Las Vegas Shooting

He appeared with Stephen Schuck, a building engineer who was on the 32nd floor of Mandalay Bay with him during the shooting.

Earlier today, LawNewz and other outlets reported on the curious circumstances surrounding hotel security guard Jesus Campos, who was involved in the response to the shooting carried out by Stephen Paddock at the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas.

Almost two weeks after one of the deadliest shootings in modern USA history, authorities have yet to sort out the basic facts surrounding the case of a high-stakes video poker player who murdered 58 people from his high-rise hotel room in Las Vegas.

The six minutes that transpired between the hallway shooting and the start of the gunman's fusillade wouldn't have been enough time for officers to stop the attack, said Ron Hosko, a former Federal Bureau of Investigation assistant director who has worked on SWAT teams. "Just healing mentally and physically", he told DeGeneres. As discovered last week, he was the actually the first shooting victim because the gunman first sprayed his bullets down the hotel hallway, striking Campos in the leg, before he unleashed into music festival crowd.

Eventually he got onto the shooter's floor using a different route, he said. He went downstairs and took the elevator up, where he saw that a metal bracket was holding shut one of two consecutive doors leading to the stairwell. Hickey didn't hear from the guard afterward and announced to a scrum of reporters that night that Campos had canceled interviews. He assumed people were working in the area and turned to walk down the hall.

All of a sudden, Campos stated, "I heard fast fire". Campos said, speaking softly and appearing nervous. "Shortly after that's when Stephen was approaching, and I told him to stay back and get cover, and that's when more rounds were dispersed". "I could feel them pass right behind my head. That's when I called it in on my radio that shots had been fired". Police have changed the timeline several times of when Campos was shot by Paddock.

"I understand your reluctance, because you just want this to be over", she said. "I thought it was a jackhammer", Schuck said.

Schuck then heard Campos yell, "Take cover!"

"Because he was still shooting, so you would have been hit if he hadn't told you", DeGeneres said.

Jesus: "There was a female that came out and I told her to go back inside and it wasn't safe", Jesus said.

Campos "leaned out and he said, 'Take cover!"

He thanked first responders, medics and members of the community who helped everyone in need that night. "Everyone came together to help that night even in the darkest hour", Campos said.

Campos and Schuck refused to accept money from the show, but DeGeneres still bestowed the men with a few gifts.

"We have had no contact with him".

With DeGeneres' delicate goading, Campos recounted the tale of the evening of October 1, when he was dispatched to the 32nd story of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino to mind a ready that a stairwell entryway was open. "He's asked that everyone respect his request for privacy".

Considered as the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history, the attacker fired at least 3 different rounds, but it is unknown if the pauses he took were to load the same rifle with more ammunition or to change his weapon.

Campos was hailed a hero by authorities, who initially said he diverted the gunman's attention and made him stop firing on the crowd.

At first, the timeline of the Las Vegas shooting seemed clear-cut.

MGM Resorts, the owner of Mandalay Bay, is a sponsor of the Ellen DeGeneres show.

The interview on Ellen doesn't alter the latest timeline described by Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo, which has shifted in the weeks since the shooting.
