Everton match turns to chaos as fan punches player

Arsene Wenger Manager of Arsenal looks on as Ronald Koeman Manager of Everton directs his players during the Premier League match between Everton and Arsenal at Goodison Park on December

The players erupted into a scuffled beside the partition that separates supporters from the pitch.

Everton could be without Morgan Schneiderlin for Sunday's Premier League showdown with Arsenal after the midfielder suffered an injury in their Europa League defeat to Lyon.

It even involved an Everton fan who tried to attack Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes after home captain Ashley Williams pushed the said opponent.

Merseyside Police are also investigating the brawl on the pitch between players from both teams, while Everton have banned one individual.

The force said its detectives would review footage and speak to witnesses to establish what, if any, offences had been committed.

An all-out melee ensued with players from both sides getting involved, while at least one fan behind the goal was caught on video throwing punches at a Lyon player before stewards intervened.

George W Bush speaks out against Donald Trump 'bigotry'
He condemned anti-immigrant rhetoric, reminding his audience of the "the dynamism that immigration has always brought to America". He added that people today are too often "judging groups by their worst examples" and ourselves by our "best intentions".

UEFA are also likely to take action against Everton, but are now waiting on the referee's match report to be submitted before deciding on an angle of attack.

Williams was booked for his role and appeared fortunate to escape with just a caution as replays showed he raised his hands to Lucas Tousart's face.

Last month Everton was fined 11,700 US dollars by Uefa after crowd trouble during the home leg in August of their Europa League playoff match against Hajduk Split. (Nabil) Fekir in the first half dived 10 times.

Lopes meanwhile said, "I don't think it's part of the English atmosphere to hit an away player but it was like that".

"I still believe in the players and the signings we did in the summer because maybe everybody can have some doubts about several of the signings".

It compounded another miserable night for Everton and Koeman, who is under mounting pressure with his team having won just two of their previous 12 fixtures.
