Blizzard announces new Hearthstone expansion pack Kobolds and Catacombs

New 'Hearthstone' expansion coming soon captures the spirit of classic fantasy

Hearthstone has taken the world by storm thanks to its slick gameplay, easy-to-learn-yet-difficult-to-master rules and mechanics, and its constant expansions and updates.

"Kobolds and Catacombs" is the next set of 135 themed cards coming in December to Hearthstone, Blizzard's collectible trading card game, the company announced today at Blizzcon. "It's also really fun - the strategies that pop up, the treasures are so unique and different from a lot of vanilla Hearthstone cards that your experience changes every game". "Heroes should plunder with caution, however, because losing a single battle will spell the end of their Dungeon Run", according to the press release. In fact, all nine classes are getting legendary weapons, even if they don't typically use them. But because you're playing against AI opponents, the Hearthstone team was able to test out some insane cards in Dungeon Run. No, seriously, that's what they're called, because players don't know what these items do until they're drawn.

There's also special weapons for each class being added, in a first for the game.

Just as the leaks earlier this year alluded to, the rat-like subterranean Kobolds will play a major part in this expansion's theme filled with monsters, treasures, and traps as you dig and explore your way underground.

John Wall Says Wizards 'Smell Blood' In Matchup With Cavaliers
Wall made the claim on an appearance alongside backcourt mate Bradley Beal on ESPN's " The Jump " with Rachel Nichols. Nichols then asked Wall to clarify if he thinks the Cavs avoided them to avoid playing them in the second round.

Some of the cards and treasures, as seen above, do some pretty insane things that would make normal games unfair. You'll gain more cards if you defeat a boss-if you lose, however, your deck is reset and you'll have to start over with a new tactic. Yes, you read that right - a Priest weapon.

There's been no word on Kobolds and Catacombs official release date, but Ben Brode stated that it will be available sometime "next month". You don't need to own any cards in order to actually play, as everything is contained to each Dungeon Run playthrough.

Dungeon Run is Blizzard's take on a Hearthstone rouge-like boss gauntlet.
