Blizzard Entertainment announced Friday that its real-time strategy game StarCraft II will be free-to-play beginning November 14.

Starcraft 2 is going free to play? Players will also be able to access co-op mode up to level 5.

Ranked multiplayer is unlocked by getting 10 First Wins of the Day in Unranked or Versus A.I. play.

StarCraft II is one of the highest-rated PC games of all time, and we're excited to give even more people around the world a chance to find out why it has inspired such a passionate global community. A move that could, perhaps, bring a new wave of interest to the classic series.

If you end up playing through both Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm and want to see more, you can purchase all of the other single-player campaigns for $39.99.

In addition, players will gain free access to Kerrigan, Raynor, and Artanis Co-Op Commanders completely for free.

The original Wings of Liberty campaign. Online multiplayer and select commanders will also be free. In the seven years since it released in 2010, StarCraft II has awarded over $11M in prizes to competitors. Additionally, players will be able to unlock access to StarCraft 2's multiplayer content for free. The news was formally announced by Blizzard during the 2017 Blizzcon opening ceremonies.

You'll still have to pay for the StarCraft II expansions Heart of the Swarm, Legacy of the Void, and Nova Covert Ops ($15 dollars each, of $40 for all three), but that's still a lot of free content!

For those of you who have already purchased any of the three campaigns as of October 31, we'll soon be sending you a small thank-you in the form of an exclusive Ghost skin as well as three new portraits.
