Koenigsegg sets new production auto speed record at 447 km/h

Koenigsegg Agera RS

Niklas Lilja, Swedish Touring Car Championship racer and Koenigsegg factory test driver, achieved the stunning figure after one sighting run, with the car reaching an unbelievable 284.6mph one-way speed.

A Koenigsegg Agera RS took the record for the world's fastest street legal auto yesterday, recording a 277.9mph average over two runs in Nevada.

The Koenigsegg managed to beat the former record-holding Hennessey Venom GT's run by 7mph. Towards the end of the second run, the Agera RS even surpasses 450 km/h - close to the speed of a small aircraft.

It's the same model that set a new world record for 0-249-0mph earlier this year - in just 36.44 seconds.

For several years Bugatti has held the two-way land speed record for a production auto, which was 268 miles per hour, or 431 km/h.

Surprise! Apple's flagship iPhone X is the most breakable iPhone ever…
Do you buy accidental damage insurance on your smartphones? So, you might want to get a case for your iPhone X after all . Whether it's the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 5s , there is history in this company with cracked screens and higher fix costs.

The second contender is the newly-announced Hennessey Venom F5, which the American fast auto company says has a projected top speed of 300mph. Part of that speed verification is in video form below.

Koenigsegg told Jalopnik the run was done on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, the same tires delivered to customers, and that Michelin reps were on-hand to make sure everything went ok.

The Agera RS is built around a lightweight carbon fiber and aluminum honeycomb monocoque structure and is powered by a 5-litre twin-turbo V8 that pelts out 1014kW and 1371Nm.

According to Jim Lau from Racelogic - the folks who helped verify the speed with various VBox data loggers - the event was actually put on by Koenigsegg owners.

Sure, the V10 Italian exotic may only have half the power of an Agera RS with the Megawatt engine, but the Sant'Agata Bolognese machine has something that the Swede is missing, namely a naturally aspirated heart.
