First Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, and Steven Spielberg Movie Collaboration

The Post Meryl Streep

The film marks the very first on-screen pairing of Oscar winners Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep.

Thousands of pages of secret documents about the US involvement in Vietnam, documenting from the end of World War II until 1967, were leaked to The New York Times, which began publishing them in a series that became known as The Pentagon Papers.

The film, set in 1971, is about The Washington Post securing the leaked classified Pentagon Papers in order to publish them in the paper. Imagine the scene-stealers from your favorite TV shows, comedies and dramas alike, but put in one movie starring the Oscar-winning Hanks and Streep and directed by the great Steven Spielberg.

Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep star in the first trailer for upcoming political thriller The Post from director Steven Spielberg.

The screenplay for The Post comes from Josh Singer, who received the Academy Award for Spotlight, and music will be written by Spielberg's long-time collaborator John Williams. The Pentagon Papers also detailed secret United States bombings in Cambodia and Laos.

Now, with the first trailer for the film, 20th Century Fox is finally starting to pull back the curtain.

Sheep trained to recognize Jake Gyllenhaal, for science
The sheep were given food to create an association. "I suspect they do have a genuine sense of the identity", he said . In a final test, the sheep had to choose between a picture of one of their handlers' faces and an unfamiliar face.

The Post's trailer is a barn burner of concerned looks and impossibly high ethical stakes.

But wait, students of journalistic history might ask-weren't the Pentagon Papers published by The New York Times?

The clip, released Tuesday, features Streep and Hanks teaming up at the Washington Post as they fight to expose a government cover-up regarding the US government's involvement in Vietnam.

Bob Odenkirk, Sarah Paulson, Alison Brie, David Cross and Matthew Rhys are also on the cast.

It's getting a limited December 22 release, so it'll be fresh in voters' minds when January comes around.
