Yemen on brink of world's 'largest starvation in decades'

50 killed, injured in fresh Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen

The U.N. humanitarian chief warns that unless the Saudi-led military coalition lifts its blockade on Yemen the war-torn nation will face "the largest starvation the world has seen for many decades with millions of victims".

Recall, on 6 November, the command of the Arab coalition, said that closes all land, air and sea ports in Yemen after the missile launch in Riyadh by Yemeni Houthi rebels. It explained the decision to close airports, seaports and border-crossing points by the need to prevent weapons supplies for rebels from Iran.

Speaking to reporters after briefing the UN Security Council on the situation in Yemen behind closed doors, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Mark Lowcock warned the coalition about refusing to allow humanitarian aid to Yemen.

"We ask the Saudi-led Coalition to facilitate unhindered access of aid workers to people in need, in compliance with worldwide law, by ensuring the resumption of all humanitarian flights", the aid groups said.

Since August 2014, Yemen has remained devastated in a conflict between the governmental forces and the Houthi insurgents.

WaPo: Woman Accuses Roy Moore Of Sexual Encounter When She Was 14
In a one-sentence statement Thursday, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says: "If these allegations are true, he must step aside". He touched her over her bra and underpants, she told the Post , and guided her hand to touch him over his underwear.

The war has killed more than 10,000 Yemenis, mostly civilians, and displaced more than 3 million others, according to United Nations agencies.

The Arab world's poorest country, Yemen is nearly totally dependent on imports for food, fuel and medicine.

But the United Nations, which had already listed Yemen as the world's No. 1 humanitarian crisis, responded to the decision with dismay, warning that the situation was already "catastrophic" in the country.

Yemen is also facing one of the world's worst cholera outbreaks, which has infected about 900,000 people and killed more than 2,100 since April, according to the World Health Organization. Seven million are on the edge of hunger and two million children are short of food.
