Kulbhushan Jadhav to finally meet his wife in Pakistan

Foreign Office has confirmed extending the offer to Indian government

Kulbhushan Jadhav, the Indian lodged in Pakistani jail on charges of spying, will be allowed to meet his wife, Islamabad announced on Friday.

The decision has been taken "purely on humanitarian grounds" and conveyed to the Indian authorities, the Foreign Office spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said in a statement.

"A Note Verbale to the present result has been sent to the Indian High Commission in national capital, these days (10 November)", he said.

The statement goes on to reiterate the allegations against Jhadav, saying he was apprehended by Pakistani agencies after he "illegally crossed over into Pakistan" and while he was "working with Indian Intelligence Agency/RAW".

He had filed the first petition with the Military Appellate Court, which has been rejected, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of the Pakistani army. His video confession was released by Islamabad in which he stated that he was tasked by the RAW to plan, coordinate and organise espionage, terrorist and sabotage activities aimed at destabilising and waging war against Pakistan.

The Indian government had moved a visa application for his mother to go and meet Jadhav in Pakistan.

Pakistan claims its security forces arrested Jadhav from its restive Balochistan province on 3 March past year after he reportedly entered from Iran.

After Jadhav was awarded capital punishment by a Pakistani military court in April this year, India challenged the verdict in the top United Nations court, accusing Islamabad of violating the Vienna Convention by failing to provide Jadhav with consular access which it said was in breach of worldwide human rights laws.

New Delhi has repeatedly sought access to the convicted spy but Islamabad denied the permission on the ground that consular access in cases related to spies were not applicable. Pakistan will submit counter memorial on or before December 13, 2017.
