Patrice Evra Ends Contract With Marseille

The fans displayed numerous banners protesting against the French left back last weekend

Former France worldwide defender, Patrice Evra, has been sacked by Olympique Marseille after being suspended seven months from Uefa competitions for kicking one of his own supporters before a Europa League match.

UEFA announced today that they had hit Evra with a ban that prevents him from playing club soccer in Europe for the rest of the season.

"By mutual agreement, Olympique de Marseille and Patrice Evra chose to end their collaboration", said a statement on their website.

Marseille defender Patrice Evra has been given a lengthy suspension for his part in an altercation with a supporter last week.

The France defender joined Marseille in January 2017 from Juventus, where he had spent three seasons following his departure from Old Trafford.

The former Manchester United full-back is banned until June 2018 and will miss Marseille's last two group games and the knockout stage if they progress.

Hulu is now available on Nintendo Switch
If Nintendo hits its mark, that would mean the Switch could best its predecessor's (the Wii U) lifetime sales in a single year. After months of waiting, it appears that the Nintendo Switch is getting its very first video streaming app today.

Evra committed an "irreparable" act by "responding to the disgraceful provocations of a handful of individuals", the club said on its website, adding the decision was taken by "mutual consent".

Marseille said they meant to punish fans for the type of misconduct they showed toward Evra, but did not specify whether those who had insulted the former France defender would be punished.

"Such behaviour, which exposes the club to sanctions, have no place in the stands of a football stadium and at Olympique de Marseille in particular, where love for his team and support for his players make the Marseille public the best 12th man in France".

"For Marseille fans then, who are stigmatised because of the irresponsible behaviour of a handful of them".

Former European Cup champion Marseille, the only French club to win the Champions League, was also charged with invasion of the field by its fans, setting off fireworks, and acts of damages. It must pay Vitoria 25,000 euros ($29,000) within 30 days. The player's contract is officially terminated with immediate effect.

Evra was captain of the 2010 World Cup squad but was blamed for being the orchestrator of a training-ground strike that shocked the nation.
