IT raids at Jaya TV office continue for 3rd day

The massive search and survey operation unleashed by the income tax department in the state entered second day on Friday

For the third consecutive day, the Income Tax (I-T) officials continued their search for unaccounted wealth at over 40 premises of jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala's kin, their associates and aides across the state.

In the massive search exercise, over 1800 IT officials began simultaneous searches at 187 locations in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru on Thursday morning.

"The volume and value of cash and documents seized would be known only after they are totalled after completing the entire operation", he told IANS preferring anonymity.

Whether the bank accounts of the searched persons, companies would be "frozen to detect suspect transactions and other actions", would be taken only after collating the data from the seized papers.

It has also claimed that 14 of these killings have taken place since Pinarayi Vijayan took over as the Chief Minister a year ago . ABVP students protesting the killings of RSS and BJP workers in Kerala during a protest at Kerala House, New Delhi , on Saturday.

Searches were still on at some places, including Kodanad estate owned by Sasikala, because some lockers there were yet to be opened, the source added. Pugazhendi is also under I-T scanner. BJP state president Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, however, denied the charges saying that the raids were being conducted based on the information received by the IT department. The sleuths, who searched a commercial complex belonging to Arumugasamy, have reportedly seized some important documents from there, police said. Subsequently, the number of officials carrying out the task shrunk with the conclusion of the searches at some premises. Sources said, "Documents of over 20 shell companies have been unearthed".

Income Tax raids were again conducted on the offices of prominent Tamil channel Jaya TV in Chennai today. This included suspicion of shell companies, dubious investments, suspicious fund flow and its transfers and fudging of accounts.

Dinakaran termed the IT raids as a political vendetta by the center to get rid of him and his aunt Sasikala from the AIADMK.
