Mississippi State tied with Alabama at 24 in the 4th

Dylan Moses answers the call in wake of injuries to Alabama linebackers

Cranking your TV to full volume wouldn't do it justice.

Erroll Thompson followed several former Florence defenders to Mississippi State to spread his wings a little.

The chemistry between Jalen Hurts and Calvin Ridley is alive and well. He did what he's always done as Alabama's starting quarterback.

A three-and-out from Mississippi State set up the game-winning drive. RB Damien Harris tied the score with a big touchdown run with just under 10 minutes to go to set up a wild finish. Mississippi State's power running game gained 172 yards, but in the end Alabama was able to slow the Bulldogs down.

When MSU scored the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter to go up 7-0, it marked the first time the Bulldogs had a lead over the Crimson Tide since 2008.

Mississippi State will try to take a nine-game losing streak to Alabama when the Crimson Tide visit for a crucial SEC West matchup. Ridley caught five passes for 171 yards.

Hurts hit DeVonta Smith for a 26-yard touchdown on the next play with 25 seconds remaining.

"We've been in situations like this".

"It is very disappointing", MSU safety Mark McLaurin said. "We practice against that type of stuff".

The Yellow Jackets then completed another pass in the fourth quarter for 80 yards which ultimately gave them the victory. But Tyrie Jackson and Horne answered with back-to-back layups as the Hokies closed on a run for a 52-42 halftime lead.

On the second play of the drive with the ball at the UA 32-yard line, Hurts hooked up with Ridley again, this time for 15 yards and a first down.

"Sometimes you need hard", Saban said.

"We did a good job of staying together, being one and staying cool and calm", Hurts said.

They did it on Alabama's side of the field, too.

Instead of experiencing the jubilation that looked imminent for much of the evening, Mississippi State was left to wonder what might have been. That was more than half of their total plays of 73.

"I saw something in the defense, so I told him to run the route I wanted him to run", Hurts said. "They are very excited and happy". "It doesn't matter who we lost to or how much we lost by, we lost a game we should have won". "We're going to come after you". Mississippi State pushed ahead 7-0 in the first quarter on an 11-yard touchdown run by Aeris Williams. The Crimson Tide was reeling.

Alabama's defense stiffened and did not allow Mississippi State to score the rest of the way. Following Hurts's last touchdown, Nick Fitzgerald heaved a pass out of the back of the end zone to seal an Alabama victory.

And with his 151 career passing yards in the first half, Hurts moved into ninth place on the career passing yards at 4,341 yards, behind eighth-place Freddie Kitchens' 4,668 passing yards between 1993-97. Hurts completed 10 of 19 passes for 242 yards and a touchdown.

Alabama kept answering in the second half and the Tide had all the answers at crunch time.
